• A Little Bit About Us

Our History

Our garden centre is one that is steeped in history – but ready and relevant for now. The original garden centre, founded in 1977, was built on the old Dent Colliery Mine. Chris and Maragaret Dale owned the garden centre up until early 2024 when local Reverend Dave Walker purchased the business along with son Will.

Dave and Will have already made significant investments in the state of the art aquatics department, renovations to the garden centre – and stock, as well as adaptations to the site including the addition of Grandpa Joe’s Potting Shed.

As well as these investments Dave and Will have plans to build an education centre, as well as a 7.5 acre eco environment, in partnership with Sheffield University, to be used by the local community and schools.

Our goal is to make Birley Moor Garden Centre a true destination for lovers of the natural world from all over Sheffield, South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire – as well as giving back to our local community here in Mosborough.

We hope you’ll visit us soon to see the changes we’ve been making. Thank you for your support.
